In a world of quick fixes and FAST, slow down and give a shit about your long term progress!
Some people may disagree with this statement but it doesn’t matter what kind of nutritional approach you take to get results. Everyone is different.
If you want to follow a specific diet, so be it! Everyone has a preference as to what makes their life easier and what works for them. But, just because your friend is following “X” and doing “Y”, and getting “Z”, doesn’t mean you should too. Their preference might be different than yours and that’s ok.
Finding a method that’s sustainable and practical for you, specifically, is what will give you the best chances of success (of course with some other sound things like energy balance, adherence, etc.).
Eating a balanced diet of mostly whole, nutritious, unprocessed & unrefined foods is enough of a battle for most people so, you might want to start there and really try to hone in on your nutrition before making things more advanced or challenging. There certainly is a place for processed foods but for most beginners trying to lose weight it may not be with them.
After a while of trying something if you feel it’s not right and you don’t see yourself following this method for the long term or it doesn’t seem practical long term, it may not be right for you, right now or ever. Try reaching out to professionals for advice to make sure you’re not doing something wrong and thinking it’s “broken” or “doesn’t work” before kicking it to the can.
The one thing that all nutritional strategies have in common when they result in weight loss is that they put you in an energy deficit. That’s right, the type of diet you choose has no magic, just an energy deficit.
If you try something remember you’re not in a contract with it. Stop whenever you feel like you need to. Try something else if you need to. You’re in control.
Find what’s sustainable for YOU and stick to it.
